Clearaudio developed the
WEIGHT WATCHER
digital stylus pressure gauge
for
accurate stylus pressure adjustment of nearly all phono cartridges. Correct stylus
pressure (tracking force) is important to keep the stylus correctly positioned within the
record groove and in creating the optimal relationship between the magnets and coils
that form the generator system of the cartridge. Modern high quality phono cartridges
demand a specific tracking force recommended by the cartridge manufacturer to
optimize tractability and maximize the sound performance.
The
WEIGHT WATCHER
features automatic calibration when it is switched on and
battery life extending automatic switch off after 30 seconds of non-use.
If the
WEIGHT WATCHER
is in frequent use, we recommend performing a full
calibration as follows:
-Full-calibration - (recommended every three months)
1.
Switch off the
WEIGHT WATCHER
.
2.
Switch the
WEIGHT WATCHER
by
pressing the “on / off” button once.
Immediately after that press and hold the
“Mode” – button until the display shows
“CAL”.
3.
Then press the “Mode”-button once again
and
wait until the display shows “100.00”
4.
Place the included calibrated weight in the
middle of the sur
face marked “Do not touch
or press this surface”.
5.
Aft
er 5 seconds the display shows “PASS”
indicating that full calibration is completed.
- Setup -
Please insert two type AAA batteries as shown in the drawing on the right.
Place the
WEIGHT WATCHER
on the turntable platter making sure that the four small
feet on the bottom of the
WEIGHT WATCHER
are all in contact with the platter
surface. This is important to guarantee that the
WEIGHT WATCHER
stylus pressure
gauge will give accurate readings.
Then press the “on / off” button and the
WEIGHT WATCHER
will start the automatic
calibration procedure. After 3 seconds the display will read
“
0.0”
.
Place your cartridge above the surface marked
“measuring area” and slowly lower the tonearm so that
the diamond tip touches the centre of the red dot in the
measuring area.
NOTE: The cartridge body should not touch the
WEIGHT
WATCHER
at any point.
The
WEIGHT WATCHER
indicates the absolute stylus
pressure stated in grams on the display. Follow the
cartridge
manufacturer’s advise to set the correct stylus pressure for your cartridge.
- Attention -
Precise measurements requires that surface is levelled horizontal, when the
WEIGHT
WATCHER
gauge is in use.
Do not touch, cover or put anything on the surface marked
“do not touch or press
this surface”
while using the
WEIGHT WATCHER
to avoid mismeasurement.
Replace the batteries when the
WEIGHT WATCHER
gauge cannot be switched on,
or if the measurement results are out of normal range. Correct operation can be
checked with the supplied 100 gram calibration weight.
