Transmission Standards



General Purpose

By positioning the sample at the sphere entrance port (haze port), light within the sphere is
reflected on the sample. Therefore, the efficiency of the sphere is increased and the
measured value for Total Transmittance will be slightly increased (approx. 2%).

For completely clear specimens precise transmittance values can be obtained by measuring
the samples at the clarity port.

For scattering specimens Total Transmittance is to be measured at the haze port. In this
case precise readings can be obtained by correcting for the reflected light within the sphere,
i.e. calibrating the instrument with a certified Transmission Standard.


Verification of instrument calibration for Total Transmittance

The haze-gard plus is calibrated to a Total Transmittance value of 100% by the
manufacturer. To verify the calibration, certified Transmission Standards are
to be measured at the clarity port.


Calibration with Transmission Standard


Prior to calibration the certified value of the Transmission standard need to be entered
into the firmware of the haze-gard plus. Please use the function Change Cal Value in
the Set Up Menu (for details see chapter 5.3 of the operating instructions).

1. Select the function Input Trans. Std. and enter the value of the standard

(cat. no. 4753). Confirm the entry and save the value by activating the function

Save Std. Values.


2. Perform the calibration using the Transmission Standard (cat. no. 4753).

For handling and cleaning of the standard please refer to the attached document

“Storing and Handling of Standards“.


3. The following Total Transmittance readings of the standards and the actual samples

can now all be performed at the haze port.
