Information regarding the

game of Badminton

Field of play

Fig. A shows the current valid dimensions of a
badminton court.
Singles (Fig. B)
In Singles, the inner boundary line is the lateral
field limitation. The court is therefore only 5.18m
wide. The serve is allowed from the front service
line up to the rear base line.

Doubles (Fig. C)
In Doubles, the entire court is playable.
However, the serve must take place between
front service line up to the rear base line.

Serve

You must observe the following rules in order to
serve in the correct manner.
• The entire shuttlecock must, at the moment it
meets the racquet, be underneath the player’s
waistline.
• The racquet must be pointing downwards.
• Both feet of the person serving must remain
at least partly on the ground until the serve
has been completed. Turning or dragging of
the feet is not allowed.
• Both feet must be within the court markings of
the service area without touching the lines.
• It is not permitted to delay the serve once the
service arm has begun its forwards movement
intended to hit the shuttlecock. This rule
applies until the service is completed.
• Once the shuttlecock has left the racquet, it
must proceed in an aerial path, directly over
the net.
• If the service is not returned, the shuttlecock
must land in the diagonally opposing court
section.
