phone is maintained for approximately 2 seconds
before it collapses with an audible “blubb” fol-
lowed by a short noise.
Noises comparable to this can be recognized also
when switching the supply on.
Most of other microphones have no similar “inter-
nal power supply” so that those amplifiers cannot
transmit the building up or breakdown of the po-
larizing voltage.
The “–10 dB” function is not realized by changing
the negative feedback in the amplifier of the
TLM 170 R as is done with other microphones of
the fet 80
® series but by diminishing of the cap-
sule polarizing voltage. This procedure may last
some seconds during which the microphone is
mute.
Returning to the full transmission level the micro-
phone can – as is the case when switching it on –
be accompanied by a short noise caused by the
above mentioned increase of the polarizing voltage.
2.2 Microphone Versions and
Output Wiring
The following versions of the TLM 170 R micro-
phone are available:

Version with male 3-pole XLR connector insert as
per IEC 268-12 and satin nickel finish. Requires
XLR 3 F female connector.
Microphone wired per IEC 60268-12 (pin conn.
130-x-IEC 02) or DIN EN 60268-12 respectively:
The modulation is connected to pins 2 and 3; the
shield is connected to pin 1. A sudden increase in
sound pressure in front of the microphone dia-
phragm causes a positive voltage to appear at
pin 2.

2.3 Microphone Cables
The following cables are available for the
TLM 170 R microphone:
krophons noch ca. 2 Sekunden erhalten, ehe sie mit
einem hörbaren „Blubb“ zusammenbricht, gefolgt
von einem kurzen Rauschen.
Vergleichbare Geräusche treten auch beim Ein-
schalten der Stromversorgung auf.
Die meisten anderen Mikrophone haben keine ver-
gleichbare „innere Spannungsversorgung”, so dass
deren Verstärker den Aufbau bzw. das Zusammen-
brechen der Polarisationsspannung nicht übertra-
gen kann.
Die Funktion „–10 dB“ wird beim Mikrophon
TLM 170 R nicht durch Umschaltung der Gegen-
kopplung im Verstärker erreicht, wie bei Mikro-
phonen der Serie fet 80
® , sondern durch Verrin-
gern der Kapselvorspannung. Dieser Umladevor-
gang dauert einige Sekunden, während derer das
Mikrophon stummgeschaltet ist.
Das Zurückschalten zum vollen Übertragungspegel
kann, wie beim Einschalten des Mikrophons, mit ei-
nem kurzen Rauschen verbunden sein, bedingt
durch den oben beschriebenen Aufladevorgang.
2.2 Ausführungsformen und Beschaltung des
Mikrophonausganges
Das Mikrophon kann in folgenden Ausführungsfor-
men geliefert werden:

Ausführung mit 3-poligem XLR-Steckereinsatz und
nickelmatter Oberfläche. Erforderliches Gegen-
stück: XLR 3 F.
Die Zuordnung der Mikrophonanschlüsse ent-
spricht DIN EN 60268-12 bzw. IEC 60268-12 (pin.
conn. 130-x-IEC 02):
Die Modulationsadern liegen an Pin 2 und 3, die
Abschirmung an Pin 1. Bei einem Schalldruckan-
stieg vor der Mikrophonmembran tritt an Pin 2 eine
positive Spannung auf.

2.3 Mikrophonkabel
Für das TLM 170 R stehen folgende Kabel zur Ver-
fügung:

Kabel mit dreh- und schwenkbarem Stativgelenk
für Mikrophone mit Gewindeanschluss, mit Doppel-
drallumspinnung als Abschirmung. Der Gewindean-
schluss hat 5/8"-27-Gang, mit Adapter für 1/2"- und
3/8"-Stative. Ø 5 mm, Länge 10 m. XLR 3-Verbinder.
Zur Verwendung des Kabels IC 4 (z.B. zum Abhän-
gen des Mikrophons von der Decke in Verbindung
mit der Kabelabfangvorrichtung MNV 87) muss der
schwenkbare Bügel mit seiner Halterung vom Mi-
krophon entfernt werden. Siehe dazu Kapitel 4.
Dann wird am Anschlussteil des Mikrophons ein
Gewinde zur Verschraubung mit dem Kabel frei.

Adapterkabel mit XLR 5 F-Buchse und 3,5 mm Ste-
reoklinkenstecker, unsymmetrisch, für den An-
schluss des XLR 5-Ausganges des Speisegerätes
BS 48 i-2 oder der Matrixbox MTX 191 A an Gerä-
te mit 3,5 mm Stereoklinkenbuchse. Für alle Mikro-
phone außer der Ausgangsstufe KM 100 und des
GFM 132.

Adapterkabel mit XLR 3 F-Buchse und 6,3 mm Mo-
noklinkenstecker, unsymmetrisch, für den An-
schluss des 3-poligen XLR-Ausganges eines Spei-
segerätes an Geräte mit 6,3 mm Monoklinken-
buchse. Für alle Mikrophone mit Ausnahme der
Ausgangsstufe KM 100 und des GFM 132.

Y-Kabel mit einer XLR 5 F-Buchse und zwei 6,3 mm
Monoklinkensteckern, unsymmetrisch, für den An-
schluss des XLR 5-Ausganges des Speisegerätes
BS 48 i-2 oder der Matrixbox MTX 191 A an Gerä-
te mit 6,3 mm Monoklinkenbuchsen. Für alle Mi-
krophone mit Ausnahme von KM 100 und
GFM 132.
Andere Kabellängen sind auf Wunsch lieferbar.
Das Mikrophon ist besonders unempfindlich gegen
kapazitive Belastung. TIM- und Frequenzgangver-
zerrungen werden daher auch bei Verwendung
sehr langer Kabel nicht hervorgerufen.

Microphone cable with rotatable swivel mount for
microphones with a thread, and double twist
braiding as shield. It has a 5/8"-27 female thread,
plus a thread adapter to connect to 1/2"- and 3/8"
stands. Ø 5 mm, length 10 m. XLR 3 connectors.
In order to use the IC 4 cable (e.g. for suspending
the microphone from the ceiling in combination
with the MNV 87 Auditorium Hanger), the swivel-
able bracket including its mountings must be re-
moved from the microphone. See chapter 4. This
then exposes a thread at the connector end of the
microphone which fits the screw ring of the cable.

Adapter cable with XLR 5 M connector and unbal-
anced 3.5 mm stereo jack. It is used to connect the
5-pin XLR output of the BS 48 i-2 power supply or
the MTX 191 A matrix amplifier to units with a
3.5 mm stereo input. It is designed for all micro-
phones of the fet 80/100 series and KM 100 F, ex-
cluding the KM 100 and the GFM 132.

Adapter cable with XLR 3 M connector and unbal-
anced 6.3 mm mono jack. It is used to connect 3-
pin XLR outputs of power supplies to units with a
6.3 mm monojack input. Designed for all micro-

The microphone is highly insensitive to capaci-
tive loading. As a result, even very long cable
runs do not cause either TIM or frequency distor-
tion.
