Differing to the focused measuring distance (all instrument types)

The optical profiles show that the spot size M varies with the distance from the pyrometer to the measuring
object. Spot sizes for intermediate distances, that are not shown on the optical profiles, may be calculated
using the formula below, where a = the nominal distance, aperture D see corresponding table):

The InfraWin program includes a Spot size calculator that roughly estimates the
unknown values.

6.4

Adjusting the required measuring distance

A tape can be used to determine the distance between object and pyrometer. The measuring distance is
always measured from the front of the lens.

If the laser is switched on, its smallest spot is in the measuring distance of the corre-
sponding optics or adjusted distance and it marks the center as well as the size of the
spot.

6.4.1

Optical head type II, focusable (ISQ 5-LO)

For adjustment of the correct distance, untighten the fixing
nut and vary the length of the optical head by turning the lens
tube. In the correctly focused distance the laser has its small-
est spot size (sharpest image). After adjustment tighten the
fixing nut.

6.5

Fiber optic cable (ISQ 5-LO)

The radiation, coming in through the optical head, is transported via the lens system into the mono glass
fiber with flexible stainless steel protection tube where it is transmitted along to the converter. The optical
head contains only the lens system, the electronics are located in the converter. That allows that fiber and
optical head can withstand ambient temperatures up to 250°C without cooling on optical head’s side (fiber on
converter’s side max. 120°C). The fiber has a red mark for correct connection to the pyrometer. This color
mark has to be mounted on the pyrometer’s side.

Minimum bending radius:

momentary, localized (max. 50°C):

50 mm

long-term (max. 250°C):

120 mm

in coiled condition (max. 50°C):

120 mm

Note:

A hot fiber optic cable should not be exposed to continual movement!
