3. Dismantling, Assembly of Chuck

3.1 Dismantling:

-- Dismount the chuck from the machine spindle

-- Remove the base jaws 03 (with mounted interchangea-

ble jaws if applicable). See also the description ”Chan-
ging the clamping jaws” in this respect.

-- Unscrew the 3 mounting screws 16 and remove from the

body 01.

-- Deposit the chuck on the front face and remove the

adaptor plate 04 from the body 01.

-- Unscrew the 3 holding pins 10 and remove from the body

01.

-- Pull the 3 sleeves 11 and the turntable bolt 07 (with the

spring pin) radially out of the body 01.

Attention:

-- Pull the piston 05 and 3 wedge bars 02 upwards

and out of the body 01.

The spring pin, its pressure spring and the ball for the safety
key can remain lying loosely around in the chuck interior or
fall out after removing the turntable bolt 07.

3.2 Assembly:

-- Connect the 3 wedge bars 02 to the piston 05 and insert

together into the body 01. Ensure that the inscription on
the wedge bars 02 (”1” to ”3”) corresponds to the inscrip-
tion on the respective jaw guides in the body 01.

-- Insert the sleeve 11 with the turntable bolt 07 and spring

pin, pressure spring and ball into the body 01 from the
exterior so that the turntable bolt 07 engages in the
wedge bars 02.

-- Screw the holding pin 10 into the body 01. Ensure that its

face lies below the level of the face of the body 01.

-- Mount the adaptor plate 04 correctly aligned relative to

the cylinder pin on the body 01 and screw on with the 3
mounting screws 16. See the table in Chapter ”Risk In-
dications” for the tightening torque (depends on the
thread size and quality class of the cylinder screw).

The chuck should be dismantled, cleaned, greased and
re-assembled if stiffness or a reduction in clamping force is
detected.

4. Changing the jaws

4.1 Mounting the Base Jaws:

-- Open the chuck, extending the 3 wedge bars 02 fully

outwards under power. The clamping cylinder should
remain in this position.

-- Clean the jaw guides and the teeth on the wedge bars 02

thoroughly. Do not blow out with air. It is recommended
that the jaw guides be lightly lubricated with F90 grease
to maintain chuck clamping force at a high level.

-- Clean the 3 base jaws 03 thoroughly and check for evi-

dence of wear or damage. Worn base jaws 03 can lead
to unsatisfactory working results, inaccuracy or malfunc-

tions. Damaged base jaws 03 should never be used.

Risk of accident!

-- Stop the machine spindle in a position where one of the 3

base jaws 03 and associated turntable bolt 07 can be
easily accessed.

-- Press the turntable bolt 07 inwards radially by about 3

mm with the safety key and then turn until the base jaw
03 can be pushed inwards radially from the outside, or
offset outwards or inwards.

Note: The 3 base jaws 03 are punch marked with the num-
bers ”1” to ”3”. The jaw guides in the body 01 are similarly
marked.

Ensure that the base jaw numbers and jaw guide numbers
correspond when newly inserting base jaws 03.

-- Once changed and in the correct position, the base jaw

03 is locked in position again and secured by unscrewing
and removing the safety key.

--

Proceed in the same manner for the other two base
jaws 03.

Attention:

The 3 base jaws 03 should be shoved inwards at least as
far as is necessary to cover the 3 locking pins 06 in the 3
wedge bars 02!

-- Check whether all 3 base jaws 03 rotate with the same

diameter (balance error).
