The Clearaudio cartridge alignment gauge fullfills highest damands on precision and
reliability. The alignment of the cartridge using only one point is a great

improvement in aspects of handling.

With the Clearaudio cartridge alignment gauge you have now the possibility to

optimize the cartridge setup for several inner groove radius beside the IEC-Norm
(r=60,325mm)

First of all a decision has to be made whether to

optimize for inner groove radius according to IEC
standard (60.325mm) or according to a Clearaudio
recommendation (r=65mm, r=70mm, r=75mm) (see

additional setup information). Position the applicable
side of the base plate towards the user and mount
the direction finder bar with the pointer end to the

right. Depending on the inner radius that you have
chosen to be used (60,325, 65, 70 or 75mm) it could
be necessary to turn the scaleplate. This is done very easy by unscrewing the two
screws on the bottomside of the cartridge alignment gauge with the provided hex

key wrench, turn the scaleplate and screw it on again.

Before adjusting the cartridge please connect the cartridge pins. Mount the cartridge still

moveable and adjust stylus pressure. Adjust the tonearm height so, that the armtube is
parallel to the platter surface while tonearm is lifted down and a record is placed onto the
platter. Remove record afterwards from the platter.

Place the base of the adjustment gauge on the turntable spindle and direct the
pointer end of the direction finder bar to the tonearm pivot. Following fix the pointer
with the two finger-screws. Position the tip of the pointer exactly over the pivot

center the way you would procede in order to measure the pivot distance (which
value is insignificant with this gauge) thus ensuring an exact 90 degree angle of the
base plate. Lowering of the pointer tip into the small center hole with Clearaudio

tonearms offers some disalignment protection so one can (after tightening the
thumb-screws) concentrate on the adjustment of the pick up cartridge.

With slightly loosened headshell srews the tip of the pick up diamond is to be

lowered into the center of the grid circle while simultaneously aligning the front
and/or side cartridge edges parallel to the grid lines. For more exact adjustment the
sighting-line can be prolonged by a pencil mine cautiously attached with adhesive

tape. Carefully tighten the headshell screws, proof the tracking force again and make
a final check of the correct diamond position and edge alignment.

That´s it! The setup of your cartridge is done now !
