4. Master TQ-I adjustment

For this adjustment now take an old, used vinyl. This LP should be flat and not too thick. Instead of a

LP you can also use the delivered linear tracking gauge, which is nearly as thick as an LP.

Adjust little stylus pressure, while sliding the

counterweight(s) in the direction of the cartridge. The

exact pressure will be adjusted later. Lift the cartridge

with the cueing lever down on the LP (or the linear

tracking gauge). To achieve the right height of the

cartridge you have to loosen the two screws in the

side of the tonearm, so that you can move the

tonearm up and down on the two rods. The two
supporter screws (the tonearm rests on the supporter

screws) had to be adjusted in the same direction, that

after changing the height, the bubble of the mounted

level gauge in the tonearm will be positioned as

shown in the left picture. The headshell rod should be

parallel to the surface of the LP. If so, you can fix the
tonearm in this position with the two screws again.

You can lock the supporter screws with the nuts.

The following step will ensure real linear tracking.

You will need the delivered linear gauge for this

adjustment. Slide the gauge over the spindle of the

platter and turn it under the chassis of the tonearm.

Please remove the LP if used one before ! Lift the

cartridge down and position the diamond on the

black line of the gauge. Do this step at the

„beginning“ and also at the „end“of the „LP“

(imagine that there is now one on your platter).

This adjustment is successful, if the diamond is in all

positions on the black line. To change the position

of of the diamond, please unlock the screw on the

top of the carriage with the hex key wrench and

move the headshell forward or backward until the diamond sits exact

on the black line. This adjustment is very important to ensure the real

linear tracking ability of your tangent.

After that you have to adjust the azimuth (vertical needle-position in the

groove). Take a straight bar or rod which is possible to be placed on the

top of the cartridge. Place this piece on your cartridge as shown in the
left picture. Lift your cartridge up (!) before doing this. Then lift your

cartridge down on the LP and make sure that the straight bar or rod is

parallel to the turntable platter. You will have to loosen the screw in the

carriage holding the headshell in order to change the horizontal position

of the cartridge. Lock this screw again after finished your adjustments.

Please take care, that during this installation the position of the tonearm

will not be changed.

Adjust the correct stylus pressure as instructed in the cartridge´s user

manual. To achieve the exact stylus pressure we recommend the use of

the clearaudio digital stylus pressure gauge “exact” (order-#: AC 002).

Please pay attention that the tonearm-cable makes a loop above the acrylic plate of the tonearm.

The clearaudio

Master TQ-I

is now complete assembled and set up.
