The pyrometer will be positioned in front of the calibration source in the distance e. e is the
distance from the front of the lens to the surface of the calibration source:

A = Diameter of the surface of the calibration source
a = Measuring distance of the pyrometer according to the data sheet
M = Spot size of the pyrometer in the distance a according to the data sheet
e = Distance from the front of the lens to the surface of the calibration source

The pyrometer has to be positioned on the optical axis of the calibration source; the spot size has
to be aligned to the centre of the calibration source. This alignment can be done easily with help of
the aiming system of the pyrometer (view finder or laser targeting light).
Pyrometers without aiming system can be aligned with help of an additional lens aperture. The
size of this lens aperture must be in a diameter which corresponds to the spot size M

e

in the

distance e.

D = Aperture of the pyrometer optics according to the data sheet
a = Main spot size of the pyrometer according to the data sheet
M = Spot size of the pyrometer in the distance a
e = Distance between the front of the lens and the surface of the

calibration source

The lens aperture has to be positioned directly in front of the calibration source; the aperture is
centred in front of the surface of the calibration source. The pyrometer has to be aligned from the
correct distance to the surface of the calibration source until the highest temperature value is
indicated. Before the actual calibration check starts, the aperture should be removed.
The pyrometer should be sent for adjustment or repair if there are deviations to the values shown
on the instrument data sheet. Subject to the condition that the optic is clean and undamaged as
well as the measuring requirements are met.

Maintenance

If necessary the calibration source can be cleaned carefully with dry and oil free compressed air.

5.1

Transport, packaging, storage

With faulty shipping the instrument can be damaged or destroyed. To transport or store the
instrument, please use the original box or a box padded with sufficient shock-absorbing material.
For storage in humid areas or shipment overseas, the device should be placed in welded foil
(ideally along with silica gel) to protect it from humidity.
Before shipping take care that the temperature of the calibration source is cooled down to ambient
temperature.
