3. Safety
3.1 Explanation of symbols
Passages marked with this symbol
warn of possible danger to people or damage
to carriages.
3.2 Safety advice
The LINTRA®-cylinder is constructed
according to current technology and
operational safety standards.
The unit may cause danger if:
- The unit is assembled or prepared by
untrained or improperly appointed people.
- The unit is used for any purpose other than
that for which it was designed.
- The accident prevention regulations and
the safety and assembly indications are not
followed.
- Everyone responsible for assembly,
commissioning and maintenance of the
LINTRA®-cylinder must have read and
understood the full operation instructions,
especially the safety section. It is recom-
mended that the customer confirm this in
writing.
- The installation and removal of the
LINTRA®-cylinder and the assembly of the
magnetic switch, connection and commis-
sioning should only be performed by
authorised and expert staff.
- Methods of working that hinder the
functions and operational safety of the
LINTRA®-cylinder must be avoided.
- The LINTRA®-cylinder must only and
exclusively be used within its technical
characteristics, uses beyond these are not in
accordance with the regulations.
The manufacturer is not liable for any
damage caused by such use.
- During assembly, alteration, maintenance
and configuration work, power supplies
must be disconnected.
- When altering the unit or fitting accessories
it is recommended to take the LINTRA®-
cylinder out of the working area and carry
out this work outside of the danger zone.
- During assembly, connection, configuration,
commissioning and testing you must ensure
that the LINTRA®-cylinder cannot be
inadvertently operated by the assembly
technician or another person.
- Additional boreholes, thread or accessories
not offered as extras may only be used after
consultation with NORGREN.
- Should the LINTRA®-cylinder work in an
environment with abrasive dust or aggressive
steam, specifically liquid, the approval of
NORGREN must be obtained.
- Otherwise, the safety and accident
prevention regulations valid in the place of
operation apply.
4. Unpacking and checking
Carefully remove the packaging. Do not use
any sharp or pointed objects. Please check the
LINTRA®-cylinder for transport damage and
report this immediately.
TIP:
For long storage periods, please take note of
the following:
- store in a cool place protected from dust;
- protect from aggressive media;
- avoid sharp temperature changes and
- close connection holes.
5. Assembly and connection
5.1 Assembly
During assembly, the LINTRA®-cylinder must
be disconnected from the power supply.
The following possibilities for assembly and
fixing can be used.
Direct assembly
Assembly with top fixing
Assembly with side support
The side support is only to be used to decrease
the deflection of the section tube in cylinders
with long strokes. These can be assembled as
follows:
Fasten the right and left side support (1) in
the middle of the section tube and fix with the
grub screws (2).
5.2 Connection of pressurised air
The standard model of the LINTRA®-cylinder
comes with open pressurised air connections
on the left and right end covers. By moving
the plug (3) in the left end cover to the free
connection hole (4) in the right end cover (5),
you have the possibility of
ventilating the LINTRA®-cylinder from the
left end cover. Versions M/46000/IC and
../MC also have the possibility of connecting
to the front, back and underside of the
end cover.

5.3 Activation
The LINTRA®-cylinder is activated with
pneumatic or electro-pneumatic switch valves.
Take care that the LINTRA®-cylinder,
especially when setting for start-up, is not
operated before being ventilated.
6. Settings
6.1 Setting the guide clearance
of the external guide
The guide bridge is factory set to be play free.
With increased actual working time it is
possible to adjust the guide clearance after
each use and the load resulting from this,
as follows.
- Screw the grub screws (31) into the guide
bridge (34) until it only just lets the guide
bridge move.
- Use a rubber mallet to tap lightly along both
sides of the guide bridge, so that the guide
strips (10) can pass through the V-grooves of
the section tube and the grooves of the
guide bridge.
- Screw the grub screws in again until it is set
as play free.
6.2 Setting the guide clearance
Roller guide
- Use a SW6 and SW8 Allen key to turn the
cam bolts (46) left or right, depending on
the position of the roller (43), until there is
a noticeable reduction in play. (Observe the
symmetrical position of the carriages to the
section tube.)
- Tighten the nuts (47).
- By moving the carriages in both directions,
check they run freely, if necessary, repeat the
setting procedure.
6.3 Setting the end of stroke
cushioning
- To guarantee the user the highest degree of
safety when setting, the cushioning screws
are completely sealed on delivery.
- Different loads cause differences in the
damping behaviour. This can be altered by
tightening or loosening the cushioning
screws.
- An optimum adjustment can be achieved
when the rod with the travelling mass in the
respective stop position brakes so far that it
arrives softly at the stop position.
7. Maintenance
7.1 Lubrication the cylinder
The LINTRA®-cylinder comes from the
factory already basically greased. Oil spraying
is not absolutely necessary, but it increases its
useful life. When using a maintenance unit, it
should be placed as close as possible to the
cylinder. A lack of lubrication can be identified
by a “slip stick effect”.
7.2 Lubrication sliding surface
After service and if there are large quantities
of dust, the contact surface in the V-groove of
the section tube should be regularly cleaned
and a thin coat of oil applied. Likewise,
the felt strips between the guide strips must be
soaked in oil. If they are very dirty, they must
be replaced.
Type of oil: Klüber Summit Hysyn FG 68
7.3 Lubrication the roller guide
The contact surface of the guide rails must be
coated with a thin film of oil every three
months or 500km. Likewise the felt strips in
the carriages must be soaked in oil.
If they are very dirty, they should
be replaced. A dark coloured mixture
indicates lubrication.
Type of oil: Klüber Summit Hysyn FG 68
7.4 Lubrication of precision roller guide
The carriages of the caged linear motion ball
guide comes from the factory already greased.
By using the LINTRA®-cylinder with precision
roller guide under normal operation
conditions a additional lubrication of a
service life about 1000 km is required.
7.5 Spares kit
For all cylinder versions kits of spares are
available. The kit contains all sealing
elements including seals and cover strip, as
well as parts that suffer high levels of wear.
Likewise, the spares kit comes with full
assembly instructions.
The bearing are not contained in this kit.
The cylinder stroke is to be entered for /*.

resistant plastic, specifically nitrile rub-
ber sealing strip, piston seals and polyurethane
wiper. Do not use solvents when cleaning the
exterior of the LINTRA®-cylinder.
