1.1 Unpacking

Please check for transport damage immediately after unpacking and check whether the power cable, the driver CD for the mainboard and the accessories
are all supplied in compliance with the invoice. Please determine if the supplied components comply with the offer and invoice respectively. In case of doubt
our support team will be of your assistance. Please understand that you have to reclaim missing parts immediately after purchase (within 14 days).

1.2 Fittings & Accessories

Implicitly keep accessories, especially packaging material, operating instructions and activation codes or serial number plates that are often located on CDs
or CD covers for later use.

1.3 Correct positioning of the unit

Place the unit upright and on an even and preferably dust-free surface, so it cannot tip or fall over. Avoid positioning near hot or poorly vented places,
such as radiators. If the unit was exposed to heat or low temperature during transport, please wait at least one hour until you switch it on (risk of
damage caused by condensation).

1.4 Interfaces & connection of peripherals

In this chapter you find a description of the most important interfaces.

ATTENTION: Depending on the configuration not all units are equipped with all

the specified interfaces and some interfaces might be located on the front or side of the unit.

Furthermore, it is possible that not every USB connection

is supported (e.g. if a card reader is integrated).

1.4.1 USB/USB 2.0
USB devices such as digital cameras or memory sticks can be connected to this interface and operate at a data transfer speed of up to 480 MBit per
second (if using USB 2.0 standards). This transmission rate is higher than the one of the firewire interface. Using a commercially available, so-called USB
hub, you can split the USB connection in order to connect additional devices.

1.4.2 Power supply and mains plug
Mains adapter and mains adapter ventilation are installed at the rear of the unit. Use the supplied power cable to connect the computer to the mains
of 110 to 230 V AC voltage. Please keep in mind that a toggle switch (master switch), possibly located on the mains adapter at the rear of the unit,
must be switched on (position

1

), as the unit cannot be operated otherwise.

1.4.3 Keyboard and mouse (PS/2)
Connect a keyboard (purple plug) and a mouse (green plug) with PS-2 socket to this interface.

1.4.4 VGA (graphic card)
Connect your monitor, video beamer or any other VGA compatible output device to the 15-pin VGA socket at the rear of the computer. You can adjust
any graphic setting, especially those important for the display quality, using the menu

”display properties”

(start menu,

system control, display settings

).

Please observe the vertical scanning repetition frequency when using tube monitors: A frequency below 70 Hz will cause flickering on the display!

1.4.4.1 TV OUT
Almost all graphic cards are equipped with a TV output (TV OUT) that allows connection of a standard TV set – perhaps for playing DVD movies. Therefore
connect the TV to the S-video output of the computer; the corresponding cables are available in specialized shops. The playback quality (resolution) of the
standard TV is not as good as the one of the PC monitor due to different technology.

Attention: Connect and turn on the TV prior booting the computer, otherwise it might not be recognized!

You can adjust settings for the video signal output to a connected TV monitor under the control panel or with the graphic card software.

1.4.4.2 DVI
Many graphic cards are equipped with a digital DVI interface that allows lossless signal transfer when using a monitor with DVI interface. If you want to
operate a standard monitor (without DVI interface) you have to use the supplied adapter plug or the VGA connector described a BUS.

Installation and initial operation

®

(only valid for computers that have Windows Vista

®

preinstalled by manufacturer)

Maintenance and Service

2.2 Reinstallation of Windows Vista

®

(only applicable for computers that have Windows Vista

®

preinstalled by manufacturer)

A very simple and convenient version is available for reinstalling the operating system. Instead of using a data medium, the files required for the Windows
reinstallation are stored on a hidden hard drive partition.

You can use the PROWORX service panel to restore the default system installation (delivery status).

After the system information (BIOS) has been displayed during the bootprocess, press <

F8

> to access the service panel and choose

”Repair computer”

in the

subsequently displayed menu

”Enhanced start settings”

. If you enter a so-called

”Boot menu”

, select the hard-drive as booting device; confirm and exit and press

<F8>

again to enter

”Enhanced start settings”

.

The service panel should start automatically if the operating system is damaged!

Please keep in mind that the manufacturer can assume no liability for a successfull operation, function and - regardless for whatever reason - data loss
and consequential damage. Please contact our support hotline in case of doubt or repair failure.

1.4.5 Firewire
Connect your firewire compatible devices to the IEEE1394 firewire interface; for instance a digital or video camera or external drives with firewire
connection.

1.4.6 Audio
Your unit uses a built-in stereo sound card for audio signal playback. You can adjust the audio settings by entering the

system control

from the start menu

(click on the Windows icon on the left bottom side) and there select (click) the menus

”Hardware and Sound”

,

”Manage sound”

and

”Audio devices”

.

Microphone IN (pink): Connect your microphone here.

Line In (blue): Connect an external audio device here (Line Out at external device to Line In at PC) to record audio files.

Line Out (green): Connect an audio device here to playback audio data (e.g. AV amplifier).

Different adapter cables (e.g. RCA to 3.5 mm phone jacks) are available in specialized shops.

1.4.6.1 6/8 Channel audio system and SPDIF interface
Using the appropriate driver software (preinstalled by manufacturer) many units are already able to playback audio data on six or eight speakers (depen-
ding on the configuration) with surround sound effects, alternatively over an AV amplifier or an active speaker system. Refer to the printed manual or CD
driver software manual of your mainboard for detailed information about the operation and connection of external audio devices. The software for con-
trolling the extended audio functions can usually be found in the taskbar or under

START, PROGRAMS

.

Your unit might also be equipped with a so-called SPDIF interface (Sony Philips Digital Interchange Format), which allows digital and lossless transmission
of audio data (using optical or coaxial cables). Such an interface is usually situated at the rear of the unit. Please also consider the related notes in the
mainboard manual.

1.4.7 Network interface card and modem
You can connect your network interface card to theses interfaces using a so-called RJ45 cable with a cable modem or a network device. If your unit is equip-

ped with a modem (connector marked with “Line” or a telephone symbol), you can connect it to the telephone network using this socket. Please bear in mind
not to mix the two connections if a modem is connected (observe the small symbols; the network connector contains more pins [8] than the modem [4]).

If your unit is equipped with a wireless LAN network interface card for wireless data transfer (optional) you might need to install the supplied antenna on the
rear side of the unit (no picture available).

1.4.8 Parallel interface and serial interface
Connect units with parallel or serial interfaces to this interface.

1.5 Enclosures, switches on the enclosure and labels

1.5.1 Windows label
The code required for a Windows reinstallation can be found on the licence label located on the rear or top of the unit. The
licence label must be attached if Windows Vista

®

was supplied with the system or preinstalled already.

1.5.2 Serial number plate
The serial number plate with the 12-digit serial number in XXXX-XXXX-XXXX format allows the identification of your compu-
ter system including the exact identification of the built-in components. The serial number is essential when calling the sup-
port hotline. Please avoid damaging this plate.

1.5.3 The mains adapter master switch
A master switch on the mains adapter at the rear of the case (not necessarily available on every unit) disconnects or activates the power supply to the
system and all users connected to the mains adapter.

1.5.4 Power switch (Power/HDD-LED)
When the master switch on the mains adapter is switched on, you can use the power switch located on the front case to turn on the unit and to turn
it off again by pressing it for 5 seconds. In order to avoid data loss we recommend to always use teh shootdown-function

shutting down

the operating

system (alternatively press power switch shortly). A green lamp indicates the unit is turned on. A red flashing lamp indicates access to the hard drive.

1.5.5 Reset button (not with all units)
Using the reset button you can restart the system if it does not respond (abnormal system termination) and if the key combination <

Strg

>+<

Alt

>+<

1.5.6 Floppy disk drive
The floppy disk drive supports 3.5” floppy discs of up to 1.44 MB storage capacity. Please bear in mind not to allow any foreign objects to enter the
drive. Eject an inserted disc by pressing the eject button. Attention: floppy disc drives are optional depending on the configuration of the unit.

1.5.7 Optical drives (DVD/CD-ROM/DVD-RW/CD-RW)
Your computer system might be equipped with one or several optical drives (several drives allow convenient copying). Open and close the trays by short-
ly pressing the eject button which is usually located on the outer right of the drive. Optionally there can also be a volume control and/ or an earpho-
ne jack as well as control buttons for audio CD playback located on the optical drive.

1.5.8 Card Reader
Built-in card readers allow the reading of and writing on digital memory cards of different kind. 7-in-1 models support CF (Compact Flash), MMC (Multi
Media Card), SMC (Smart Media Card), SD (Secure Digital Card), MS (Memory Stick), Memory Stick Pro and MD (Micro Drive Card). The card reader gets con-
nected to an internal USB interface of the mainboard and usually does not require a driver if used with Microsoft

The service panel offers the following system repair options:

1. Repairing the system start
Automatically eliminates problems that prevent Windows from starting.

During operation, Windows attempts to repair or replace damaged system files. User data and installed software cannot get lost at this point. We recom-
mend to try this option before attempting any other method.

2. Restoring the system
Return to a previous system recovery point.

During certain system activities, such as the installation of new software, Windows automatically creates so-called system recovery points. This function
allows you to ”return” to any of them or to the last working system recovery point. All user data and at that point already existing applications and
settings will be preserved.

3. Restoring the operating system
Restore Windows with the option of saving personal data.

The operating system’s status at delivery will be restored by overwriting the Windows Installation on disc C:. There will not be any writing process on
other partitions but on system partition C:. Settings and user data, in particular documents and files, should be preserved. Please notice that after this
process some software programs might not be executed properly and that settings of some Windows components and preinstalled programs might have
been lost. Use this function to create an executable operating system for data backup. After you have executed the data backup you should reinstall the
system with the function ”Restore system status at delivery” in order to guarantee full functionality.

4. Restore status at delivery
Formatting the hard disc and recreating the installation status at delivery.

Attention: The execution of this function will cause an irreversible loss of all data on hard drive C:. The partition C: will be formatted and the status at deli-
very with all drivers and preinstalled software will be restored. There will not be any writing process on other partitions but on system partition C:. Data
stored on other hard drives will be preserved.

5. Computer shutdown

2.3 (Re) Activating Windows Vista

®

Under specific conditions – e.g. after a BIOS update – it might be necessary to “reactivate” your Windows Vista

®

version that has already been activa-

ted by the manufacturer. Activating means to register your Vista

®

license. The activation has to be conducted by telephone. For that you will implicitly

need the product key of your Windows, which you can find on the licence label (COA) on the case.

For executing the activation process, open

”Control Panel”

from the start menu. There you select

”System and Maintenance”

and then

”System”

. Here sim-

ply click “Activation of Windows” on the bottom of the screen.

Note: If your Windows Vista

®

system has been activated by default, the system will display a product ID and the dialogue ”Windows has been activated”. In

such a case activation is not necessary!

After clicking

”Activation of Windows”

select the option

”Use automatic telephone system”

, determine the recent location of your unit (e.g. Austria) and

then follow the automated instructions to complete the activation of Windows Vista

®

.

ATTENTION:
Preinstalled versions of Windows Vista

®

will be deli-

vered WITHOUT data medium. Please implicitly
notice the information in chapter 2.1 and 2.2.

2.1 Create Windows Vista

®

data medium

This system - if not delivered with Windows Vista

®

Home Premium -

is supplied without data medium, as usually no data medium is required for reinstallation
of the operating system (see 2.2.). If your computer is equipped with a CD or DVD wri-
ter, you can create your own Windows Vista

®

data medium, what is recommended for safe-

ty reasons. Alternatively you can call our chiliGREEN support hotline at any time and pur-
chase such a DVD for a fee.

The process of creating a data medium is described below. The required files are located in
a so-called ISO image on your hard drive.

1. Simultaneously press <

Windows-button

> + <

E

> to open the file manager.

2. Select the ”Data”-partition (usually drive E:).

3. Double click on the ISO file containing the VISTA image.

4. Follow the instructions of the preinstalled software for creating DVDs.

If you have questions about creating a data medium, please contact our PROWORX sup-
port hotline.

3.1 Upgrading

We recommend to have modifications to the system done by qualified personnel only. However: Please pay attention to antistatic environmental conditions
and unplug the power cable before opening the case. Remember, that the manufacturer’s warranty might void in case of opening the enclosure or dama-
ging attached warranty seals. Please contact our Technical Support Hotline with any questions.

To avoid any misunderstandings related to possible warranties, please notify our support hotline by email ([email protected]) or telephone (01/325
3000 from Austria, 01805/810 230 from Germany, 0900/0400776 from NL) about modifications to the unit.

3.2 BIOS

The BIOS (Basic Input Output System), stored on a chip on the mainboard, enables the configuration of basic system functions, such as the connected hard-
ware or the order in which the hard drives are searched for an operating system during boot process. You will find a detailed description of the different
functions on the mainboard CD or in the mainboard manual.
Attention: The manufacturer has already configured the BIOS correctly. Please note that incorrect settings might cause malfunctions or data loss!

Although the manufacturer has installed the latest BIOS version, it might be necessary to update the BIOS when installing new components or software
due to compatibility reasons. We recommend to execute the so-called flashing only upon the explicit advice of one of our support staff who will also
assist you with any related questions. You will find both the corresponding downloads and installation instructions under FAQ on our websites at
www.proworx.at

and ftp.proworx.at.

3.3 Software & Maintenance

To keep all the installed software on your unit up to date, we recommend to regularly install available updates that you can find on the websites of the
different software manufacturers. Mostly there is the opportunity to register on those websites in order to obtain information on updates or to automati-
cally obtain the updates. Particularly with regard to virus protection, such updates can be essential for the operating system! Recent updates for your
Microsoft

®

operating system can be found at www.microsoft.com or at windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

3.4 Virus Protection

We implicitly recommend to install a virus protection software with automatic updates to protect your desktop from virus attacks. Many PROWORX desk-
tops are supplied with a preinstalled trial version of a virus protection software. This gives you the opportunity to upgrade such a trial version to a fully
licensed version comfortably, cheap and without reinstallation. Simply consider the related and automatic notes after expiration of the trial period or visit
www.proworx.at/software.

3.5 Data backup

Regularly execute backups on external media such as CD-R, CD-RW or DVD, floppy discs or external drives in order to protect your system from data loss cau-
sed by virus attacks, hardware errors or clumsiness etc.

Operating systems are usually equipped with service programmes to backup data (e.g. Windows Backup integrated in Windows Vista

®

) or with related notes in

the help files.

A very comfortable backup solution is available for purchase at www.proworx.at/software.

3.6 Service

Basically your computer does not require care or service. Nevertheless, we recommend to wipe the unit with a soft cloth every now and then. If placed
in a very dusty environment, you should have an expert occasionally dedusting the interior of the unit in order to prevent short-circuits and heat accu-
mulation.

3.7 Service and further support for technical problems

Should there, contrary to expectations, occur any technical problems, please contact our support hotline (see above). A sticker with the telephone number
of the support hotline is attached to the unit.

ATTENTION: Please have the 12-digit serial number that is printed on the label at the rear or top of the unit ready when calling.

We suggest preparing answers to the following questions:

1.

Did you enhance/modify the original configuration or did you modify the unit?

2.

What additional devices did you connect (manufacturer, model number)?

3.

What notifications are displayed on the monitor (exact wording, number, and error code)?

4.

What software did you use when the error occured (identification, version)? Which software has been installed?

3.8 Warranty regulations

The legal warranty regulations are printed on a supplied standard paper size DIN A4 sheet. You can also access this information through our website
www.proworx.at by entering the 12-digit serial number (

service, information regarding unit and warranty
