for the modular µTCA standard.
µTCA (Micro Telecommunications Compu-
ting Architechture) is a standard introduced
by PICMG.
The standard regulates the construction of
sub-assembly mounting and complete sys-
tem units. The standard describes the re-
quirements when Advanced MC’s are direct-
ly driven by a backplane. In addition to safe-
guarding the advancedMC, these specifica-
tions also regulate the general requirements
and attributes of µTCA systems with regard
to their mechanics, electronics and internal
management.
The µTCA standard was developed as a
high speed system platform both for the
high demands in the telecommunications
branch as well as for the requirements of
the industrial sector. The specifically de-
signed AdvancedMCs (Advanced Mezza-
nine Cards) for the telecommunication
branch are mounted directly on the back-
plane. With this method costs for compon-
ents, electronics and accessories are re-
duced and the advantages of high data
rates, maintenance of redundancies and
retention of modularity can be used.
The from FCT developed µTCA power
connectors are preferably for use in the
existing power module of the µTCA system.
They particularly feature a flat and robust
design, which enables the mating and
unmating of cards under pressure.
FCT supplies to this end the new connector
series FMI. The Powermodul-Input-Connec-
tors are available as 9W4, 7W2 and 5W5
way – both as single or dualport versions.

µTCA (Micro Telecommunications Computing
Architecture) ist ein von PICMG eingeführ-
ter Standard. Die Normung regelt im We-
sentlichen den Aufbau von Baugruppenträ-
gern und kompletten Systemeinheiten. Der
Standard beschreibt die Anforderungen,
wenn Advanced MCs direkt auf einer Back-
plane angesteuert werden sollen. Neben der
Sicherstellung zum AdvancedMC-Standard
regelt diese Spezifikation ferner die generel-
len Anforderungen und Eigenschaften eines
µTCA-Systems in Hinblick auf Mechanik,
Elektrik und das interne Management. Der
µTCA-Standard wurde als High-Speed-
Systemplattform sowohl für die hohen An-
sprüche in der Telekommunikationsbranche
als auch für die Anforderungen im industri-
ellen Sektor entwickelt. Die hierfür eigens
für die Telekommunikationsbranche entwi-
ckelten AdvancedMCs (Advanced Mezza-
nine Cards) werden dabei direkt auf die
Backplane gesteckt. Mit dieser Vorgehens-
weise werden sowohl Kostenreduzierungen
bei den Komponenten, Elektronik und Zu-
behör als auch die Vorteile von hohen Daten-
raten, Aufrechterhaltung von Redundanzen
und Beibehaltung der Modularität genutzt.
Die von FCT entwickelten µTCA-Power-
Steckverbinder werden vorzugsweise für
die im µTCA-System vorhandenen Power-
Module verwendet. Sie zeichnen sich
besonders durch Ihre flache und robuste
Bauweise aus, die auch das Stecken und
Ziehen von Karten unter Last ermöglicht.
FCT bietet hierzu die neue Steckverbinder-
serie FMI an. Die Powermodul-Input-Steck-
verbinder stehen in den Polbildvarianten
9W4, 7W2 und 5W5 - sowohl in Singleport
als auch in der Dualportausführung - zur
Verfügung.
