Switching

off

Welding, heating and brazing torch
The torch is shut off by proceeding in reverse order of the steps used for the igniting operation.
First close the adjustment valve for fuel gas (17) on the handle (15) and then the adjustment
valve for oxygen (16). During extended periods of interruption to work, close the cylinder valves
(1 and 2) or the tapping point valves (9 and 10) in the distribution line as well. The system is
relieved of pressure by opening the adjustment valve on the handle. Afterwards, close the
pressure regulator by unscrewing the pressure adjusting valve (5 and 6) and the adjustment
valves (16 and 17).
Cutting torch
First close the cutting oxygen valve (22) on the cutting insert (20) or hand-held cutting torch
(15), and then close the adjustment valve for fuel gas (17) and the adjustment valve for oxygen
(16) on the handle or hand-held cutting torch (15). During extended periods of interruption to
work, close the cylinder valves (1 and 2) or the tapping point valves (9 and10) in the distribution
line as well.
In this case, relieve the pressure on the pressure regulators and hoses by opening the adjustment

valves as well as the cutting oxygen valve. Then relieve the pressure on the cylinder pressure
regulators by unscrewing the pressure adjusting valves (5 and 6). Close the shut-off valves (7 and
8) of the pressure regulators.

Information on operation and maintenance

Torch backfire

Decrease in the flowing-out speed, e.g., due to soiling of the nozzles

during immersion in the welding pool or melting bath or due to operating
errors. The flame enters the torch and goes out with a detonating noise.
Re-ignite the torch!

Torch flashback

During flashback, the flame goes farther into the torch and continues to
burn in the area of the mixing point. A whistling noise is created. In this
case, close the adjustment valve for fuel gas (17) and the adjustment valve
for oxygen (16) on the handle, hand-held cutting torch or gouging torch
(15) immediately.

Torch damage

In case of leakage of screwed connections and nozzles including damages
due to torch flashbacks, melted-in masses at the mixing point, clogged
injectors, etc., the torch must be withdrawn from use immediately and, or
not be used. Repairs must be performed by authorised repair workshops
only.

Starting up operation following a malfunction

Cleaning the torch and nozzle:
Clean the torch and nozzle prior to using the torch again. Use suitable nozzle cleaners, and in
some instances, a brass wire brush to clean the nozzles.

Caution! Do not enlarge the bored holes of the nozzle.

Suction test
Close the shut-off valve (8) on the pressure regulator or tapping point valve (10) for fuel gas.
Unscrew the fuel gas hose (14) on the handle or hand-held cutting torch (15). Open the
adjustment valve for oxygen (16) and the adjustment valve for fuel gas (17). With an installed
torch attachment, hand-held cutting torch or gouging torch, oxygen flows out of the torch
nozzle. Hold your fingertip on the inlet connection for fuel gas of the handle, hand-held cutting
torch or gouging torch. With good suction, your fingertip will be noticeably sucked in. If no
suction is determined, the torch may not be used and must be checked or repaired in an
authorised workshop.
