Motherboard
SIMMs
The motherboard has two slots for SIMMs:
• FLASH: This connector takes a FLASH SIMM to increase the node’s FLASH
memory.
• Data Compression/Encryption: Set on its side, this connector take a SIMM to
provide data compression capabilities or a SIMM to provide encryption.
Caution
Be sure to place the FLASH, Data Compression, and Encryption SIMMs in the
correct slot. The SIMM Slots are physically identical. If you place the SIMM in the
wrong slot, the equipment can be damaged.
For information on installing or removing SIMMS, refer to the “DIMs, SIMMs,
DIMMs and Switches” section in Chapter 3.
DIMM
The motherboard has a slot for a single SDRAM DIMM. The Vanguard 6435 comes
standard with a 16 Mbytes SDRAM DIMM. An option 32 Mbyte SDRAM DIMM is
also available. Below are the recommended configurations.
Vanguard 6435:
• SDRAM Expansion 16 Megabyte DIMM standard optional 32 Megabyte.
• 32 Megabyte is recommended when using the 8 Megabyte Flash SIMM.
Vanguard 6455:
• Vanguard 6455: Release 5.6 and greater the Vanguard 6455 ships with the
recommended 32 Megabyte DIMM installed.
• Any Vanguard 6455 equipped with 16MB SDRAM and 8MB FLASH SIMM
should be upgraded to 32MB SDRAM. 32Mbyte.
Warning
Your Vanguard product was designed and certified for use with specific memory
option SIMMs. It is IMPORTANT that you install only the devices that are certified
for use with your Vanguard product. Installation of an incorrect FLASH SIMM
module could result in damage to the SIMM device or your Vanguard Product.
Please see the list below for the memory device that is compatible with your
hardware platform.
