Thermal Considerations
Introduction
This section explains some of the heat and temperature factors that can affect your
Vanguard 6435/6455.
Fan
After the unit is installed, power it up and check that the fan is working properly. The
feet must be installed and air should be blowing out of the unit.
Inlet Temperature
After the unit is running, check the ambient air temperature. Make sure it does not
exceed the operating temperature limits specified in Appendix A.
Thermal Shutdown If a Vanguard 6435/6455 is not properly cooled, the power supply will overheat and
shut down. This is called Thermal Shutdown. The power supply remains off until it
cools, after which it automatically comes back on.
Thermal Shutdown can occur if the Vanguard 6435/6455’s internal temperature is
too high because of any of these conditions:
• Blocked vents
• Insufficient clearance around the unit
• Air inlet temperatures exceeds the operating limits
After it cools, the unit powers on again. However, the unit will continue to
automatically shut down until the problem is corrected.
