3 Working with the Application

Figure 1: The Start screen

When the application launches, the Start screen shows a scan of
connected controllers’ IP addresses. The Main window appears when the
scan is complete.

3.1 The Main Window

Figure 3: The Main window

The Main window scales to size.

The Main window comprises several features:
At the top is a menu bar affording access to various menus called FILE,
CONTROLLER, NETWORK, VIEW, and ?. At the top right in the menu
bar you will fi nd the familiar buttons for showing, hiding, and closing
the window. Click the given icon to access the Controller view, EQ view,
Group view, Meter Bridge, and Admin view windows.

The panel on the left comprises two sections that provide a view of all
controllers and the 16 groups.

The CONTROLLER box at the top left shows all controllers. Green marks
controllers that are online and ready for use; red marks disconnected
controllers.
The GROUP box at the bottom left shows the 16 groups and the cont-
rollers they contain. You can easily assign any connected controller by
simply dragging and dropping it into a group.

The Main window comprises two Explorer panels for controllers and
groups. The big display panel on the right with the HK logo on a
black background shows the currently active windows of the selected
controller, group, and stereo input EQ. It also provides a clear view of all
controllers in a meter bridge.

Note: Show and hide views by clicking the View buttons below the menu!

To avoid confusion, only one window of a controller or group is active
at a time. The window is shaded when the view changes to another
controller or group.

The Controller Panel Popup Menu

Right-click a controller icon to open a context menu offering the follo-
wing options:

• Disconnect/Try to connect
• Request all values
• Lock Controller Hardware Keys

DISCONNECT severs the link between the selected controller and
LIPAN. The application and controller can no longer exchange data, so
you can remove the controller from the network or switch it off without
inviting an error message. TRY TO CONNECT prompts the LIPAN appli-
cation to attempt to connect a FIRNET controller. To this end, you must
assign the target controller’s IP address to the controller icon. REQUEST
ALL VALUES retrieves all the selected FIRNET controller’s current
settings and loads these to LIPAN.

LOCK CONTROLLER HARDWARE KEYS locks and unlocks the buttons
on the selected FIRNET controllers to prevent unauthorized or uninten-
tional handling. A checkmark next to the menu option and a lock symbol
in front of the controller icon tells you keys are locked.

Testing the application without a connected controller
A right-click in the blank area of the CONTROLLER window opens a
context menu offering the menu option ADD NEW CONTROLLERS.
Selecting it opens a table in which you can create new controller icons in
the ADD column by specifying their IP addresses. If you click an empty
box in this column or the ADD CTLR button, the application suggests the
next available IP address (192.168.1.xxx). Clicking an IP address in the
table opens a panel listing available IP addresses. Click OK after entering
to the table the new controller icons with the corresponding IP addres-
ses. Although the new controller icons are now listed alongside their IP
addresses, they have yet to be connected to FIRNET controllers.
