4.2 Dismantling the Base Jaws:

-- Open the chuck, extending the 3 wedge bars 02 fully

outwards under power. The clamping cylinder should
remain in this position.

-- Stop the machine spindle in a position where one of the 3

base jaws 03 and associated turntable bolt 07 can be

easily accessed.

-- Press the turntable bolt 07 inwards radially by about 3

mm with the safety key and then turn until the base jaw
03 can be removed outwards radially or offset outwards
or inwards.

Note: The locking pin 06 can be pressed into the wedge bar
02 with a drift punch, screwdriver or similar if the chuck is
no longer to be fitted with jaws. Pressing in the locking pin

06 enables retraction of the turntable bolt 07 with the safety
key. This can now be removed from the turntable bolt 07.

-- Proceed in the same manner for the other two base

jaws 03.

4.3 Replacement of jaws and subsequent additions to

existing stocks

Attention: For technical reasons the jaw guidings have
to be sharp edged. To avoid injuries safety gloves must
be worn when working at freely accessible jaw guiding
edges (i. e. for jaw changing).

All jaws ground to finished size on a specific chuck should
only be used on that particular chuck in order to maintain
the true--running accuracy.

Base and top jaws for recurrent work should be kept toge-
ther as bolted sets. It is therefore advisable to stock a num-
ber of such jaw units.
Subsequently purchased hardened stepped jaws must be

ground to finished size on the chuck with initial tension. This
can be done at our factory against a charge if the chuck is
returned to us.

Soft jaws turned to the size of the workpiece diameter pro-
vide the highest accuracy and protect the surface of the
workpiece against deformation under high clamping forces.
When the jaws are machined to finished size -- soft jaws by
turning, hardened jaws by grinding -- they must be clamped
as if chucking a workpiece in order to achieve the desired
high accuracy. The required initial tension can be achieved
with the aid of our BAV jaw finish turning fixture.
