sysTem descriPTion 6.
General description 6.1.
The Power I/O Box Type 8643 with FOUNDATION Fieldbus
activation (hereafter Power I/O Box Type 8643) is used for
the activation of binary signals on the FOUNDATION Fieldbus.
It is suitable for use in potentially explosive atmospheres,
approved according to ATEX for use in Zone 1 and 21.
This device is supplied in either an aluminium or polyester
housing in protection class IP65 or as an electronic module in
IP20/IP30 for the installation into housing with Ex-e approval
or control cabinets.
There are two versions for the various bus concepts:
2-wire-version
A separate cable is not needed for the Ex-e bus in the
2-lead version due to the available current of up to 1.5 A.
4-wire-version
In the 4-lead version, the device is supplied via a separate
power supply source for the Ex-i bus (FISCO) due to the
fact that the usable energy from the bus wiring is extremely
limited.

The Power I/O Box Type 8643 is designed for decentralised
use in industrial environments, especially in the fields of the
pharmaceuticals industry, petrochemistry and fine chemical
technology. It meets the specifications for the protection
classes IP20/IP30 (as an electronic module) and IP65 (in
aluminium or polyester housing).
Danger!
Risk of explosion from electrical voltage!
The Power I/O Box Type 8643 is designed as ignition
protection type Ex-e (increased safety).
Before working on non-intrinsically safe circuits of •
the Power I/O Box Type 8643, always switch off the
operating voltage of the system!
If using the Power I/O Box Type 8643 in a control
cabinet, ensure that:
the control cabinet is also authorized for use in an •
environment where there is a risk of explosion,
the control cabinet is large enough for the lost
•
heat to be discharged to the exterior in a suitable
manner,
the internal temperature of the control cabinet does
•
not exceed the allowable operating temperature!
