Safety information and Maintenance
(Part of the Operating Instructions for Safety System CES-AH-C03-AH)
Correct use
The Coded Electronic Safety switches series CES
are safety devices for monitoring movable safety
guards so that:
f
dangerous work on machines can only be carried
out if the safety guard is closed.
f
a stop instruction is triggered if the safety guard is
opened when the machine is running.
Before safety switches are used, a risk assessment
must be performed on the machine, e.g., in accor-
dance with:
f
EN ISO 13849-1, Safety of machinery. Safety re-
lated parts of control systems. General principles
for design, Annex B
f
EN ISO 14121, Safety of machinery. Risk assess-
ment. Principles
f
IEC 62061, Safety of machinery. Functional safety
of safety-related electrical, electronic and program-
mable electronic control systems.
Correct use includes compliance with the relevant re-
quirements for installation and operation, for example
f
EN 1088, Safety of machinery. Interlocking devices
associated with guards. Principles for design and
selection
f
EN 60204-1, Safety of machinery. Electrical equip-
ment of machines. General requirements
The safety switch must be used only in conjunction
with the designated CES actuators from EUCHNER.
On the use of different actuators, EUCHNER provides
no warranty for safe function.
A combination of other CES devices or devices from
other manufacturers is not allowed.
Exclusion of liability and warranty
In case of failure to comply with the conditions for
correct use stated above, or if the safety instructions
are not followed, or if any servicing is not performed
as required, liability will be excluded and the war-
ranty void.
General safety instructions
The device is only allowed to be installed and placed
in operation by authorized personnel
f
who are familiar with the correct handling of safety
components,
f
who are familiar with the applicable regulations on
health and safety and accident prevention
f
and who have read and understood the operating
instructions and the system manual.
The safety function of the system while the machine
is in operation can no longer be ensured if the device
is connected incorrectly or used incorrectly.
Prior to use, read the operating instructions on the
CD/DVD supplied, and keep these in a safe place.
Ensure the operating instructions are always avail-
able during mounting, setup and servicing.
EUCHNER cannot provide any warranty in relation to
the readability of the CD/DVD for the storage period
required. For this reason you should archive a printed
copy of the operating instructions. You can download
the operating instructions at www.EUCHNER.de.
Operating instructions on CD/DVD
Each device is supplied with operating instructions
on CD/DVD; these instructions contain detailed infor-
mation on the overall system. The following system
requirements must be met to be able to open or print
the document:
f
PC with PDF Reader installed
f
CD/DVD drive
f
Opening and printing the documents
Important: the autoplay function for the drive must be
enabled (see operating system help) and you will need
a PDF Reader that can open PDF files from version 4.
1. Insert CD/DVD
¨
Selection table is opened in the browser
2. Click the related document for your system
¨
The document is opened and can be printed
Mounting, setup and troubleshooting
For detailed instructions on mounting, setup and
troubleshooting, please refer to the operating instruc-
tions on the CD/DVD.
Electrical connection
For detailed information on the electrical connec-
tion, please refer to the operating instructions on
the CD/DVD.
Important: Two switching elements are connected
in series in the device. Both outputs can therefore
be used separately as a safety output for the direct
interruption of the supply of power to an actuator
(valve, contactor, etc.).
Do not use a control system with pulsing to test the
output cables or switch off the pulsing function in
your control system.
Take note of the connection example in the operating
instructions on CD/DVD.
Inspection and service
Danger! Loss of the safety function because of
damage to the system. In case of damage, the
related component must be replaced completely.
Replacement of individual parts of a component
(e.g. parts of the evaluation unit) is not permitted.
Subject to technical modifications; no r
esponsibility is accepted for the accuracy of this information. © EUCHNER GmbH + Co. KG

Regular inspection of the following is necessary to
ensure trouble-free long-term operation:
f
Check the switching function
f
Check the secure fastening of the devices and the
connections
f
Check for soiling (e.g. the ventilation slots on the
housing)
Check the safe function of the safety guard par-
ticularly
f
after any setup work
f
after the replacement of a CES component
f
after an extended period without use
No servicing is required, repairs to the device are only
allowed to be made by the manufacturer.
