Warning: Immediately replace worn or

damaged parts by genuine ENERPAC
parts. ENERPAC parts are designed to fit
properly and withstand rated loads.

Warning: Locking pressure should be

70% of the clamping pressure.

Caution: Do not keep pressure on locking

system during machining to avoid
inaccuracy.

Caution: To protect your warranty, use

only ENERPAC hydraulic oil.

Caution: To achieve optimal operation,

limit the time of building up the locking
pressure to a maximum of two seconds
(impuls or hammer effect) and keep this

pressure on for minimal two seconds.

Caution: Always use an equal or higher

unlocking pressure than the locking
pressure: preferably 100 bar [1450 psi]
higher.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

2.1

Principle

The Collet-Lok

®

Swing Cylinders are double-acting

and provide swing and clamp features. Depending
on the cylinder model, the optional clamp arm
swings 90º left or right by means of an index
mechanism. The principle of the Collet-Lok

®

system

is a wedge construction with a small angle which is
selflocking. After the plunger is hydraulically locked
in position, the system must be depressurized. The
plunger will remain locked. To release the plunger,
the cylinder has to be pressurized again with a high
oil flow rate (see also section 5.1).

2.2

Locking system

The holding force of the lock (wedge) system is
proportional with the locking pressure. We
recommmend a maximum locking pressure of 240
bar [3480 psi]. See illustration 1, 2 and 3.

TECHNICAL DATA

3.1

Power Sources

Collet-Lok

®

Swing Cylinders should be used with

electric driven hydraulic pumps. Always check the
pump specifications to ensure adequate flow and
pressure ratings. Cylinder specifications are
mentioned in tables 1 and 2. For applications
demanding a different oil flow or pressure, contact
your ENERPAC representative.

3.2

Cylinder Specifications

ENERPAC swing cylinders can be mounted in any
position.

3.3

Clamp arms

If your clamping applications require a non standard
clamping arm model, the maximum allowable
clamping force has to be adapted. In the illustrations
4,5 and 6. the relation is shown between armlength,
pressure and clamping force.

Caution: When in doubt, contact your

ENERPAC representative!

INSTALLATION AND CONNECTION

4.1

General

Caution: It is mandatory that personnel in

charge of installation and/or operation
have a full understanding of all
instructions, safety regulations, cautions

and warnings, before starting the installation or to
operate any of this equipment.

It is essential to use filtrated oil. If contaminants enter
into the hydraulic system and thus in the collet area,
this may cause sticking of the collet and damage the
cylinder.
Filtration of the oil with high pressure filters is
recommended (Model number FL-2102 or FL-2202).

To achieve a high oil flow rate to the oilports, use
hydraulic lines (tubing) with a minimum internal
diameter of 8 mm [.32 inch].

4.2

Pressure

For a specific cylinder function, as shown on page 7
in figures 7 and 8, each oilport must be activated.
