Operating Instructions Key Adapter CKS-A-L1B-SC

Correct use

Key adapters series CKS are operated in combina-

tion with an evaluation unit in the system family

CES-AZ-.ES-... or CES-FD-...
In combination with a safety guard, this safety

component prevents dangerous machine move-

ments from being performed for as long as the

key is removed.
A stop command is triggered if the key is removed

during the dangerous machine function.
For the control system, this means that

f

starting commands that cause hazardous situa-

tions must become active only when the key is

inserted.

Before safety components are used, a risk as-

sessment must be performed on the machine in

accordance with

f

EN ISO 13849-1, Safety of machinery. Safety re-

lated parts of control systems. General principles

for design, Annex B

f

EN ISO 14121, Safety of machinery. Risk assess-

ment. Principles.

f

IEC 62061, Safety of machinery. Functional safety

of safety-related electrical, electronic and program-

mable electronic control systems.

Correct use includes compliance with the relevant

requirements for installation and operation, in

particular

f

EN ISO 13849-1, Safety of machinery. Safety re-

lated parts of control systems. General principles

for design

f

EN 1088, Safety of machinery. Interlocking

devices associated with guards. Principles for

design and selection

f

EN 60204-1, Safety of machinery. Electrical equip-

ment of machines. General requirements.

The key adapter must be used only in conjunction

with the designated CKS keys from EUCHNER.

On the use of different keys or other connection

components, EUCHNER provides no warranty for

safe function.
Important:

f

The user is responsible for the integration of

the device into a safe overall system. For this

purpose, the overall system must be validated,

e.g. in accordance with EN ISO 13849-2.

f

Key adapter CKS must not be used as a lock-

out mechanism in combination with multicode

evaluation

f

Correct use requires observing the permissible

operating parameters (see Technical data).

f

If a product data sheet is included with the

product, the information on the data sheet ap-

plies in case of discrepancies with the operating

instructions.

Exclusion of liability and warranty

In case of failure to comply with the conditions for

correct use stated above, or if the safety instruc-

tions are not followed, or if any servicing is not

performed as required, liability will be excluded and

the warranty void.

Safety precautions

Safety components fulfill personal protection func-

tions. Incorrect installation or tampering can lead to

fatal injuries to personnel.
Check the safe function of the safety guard par-

ticularly

f

after any setup work

f

after the replacement of a system component

f

after an extended period without use

f

after every fault

Independent of these checks, the safe function of

the system should be checked at suitable intervals

as part of the maintenance schedule.

Danger of fatal injury in the event of incorrect

connection or incorrect use.

f

Safety components must not be bypassed

(bridging of contacts), turned away, removed

or otherwise rendered ineffective. On this

topic pay attention in particular to the mea-

sures for reducing the possibility of bypassing

from EN 1088:1995+A2:2008, Section 5.7.

The device is only allowed to be installed and

placed in operation by authorized personnel

f

who are familiar with the correct handling of

safety components

f

who are familiar with the applicable EMC

regulations

f

who are familiar with the applicable regula-

tions on health and safety and accident

prevention

f

who have read and understood the operating

instructions and the system manual.

The switching operation may be triggered only

by keys specially designated for this purpose

(see Ordering table).

Use in combination with multicode evaluation

units only in special cases after strict assess-

ment of the accident risk.

The possible use of several keys increases the

risk of tampering.

The key must be completely pulled out of the

key adapter in order to switch the safety circuit

off safely.

Function

The key adapter CKS is a CES read head (see manual

of the evaluation unit used) and is used as a lockout

mechanism. As soon as the key is in the key adapter,

this is reported to the evaluation unit.
Each delivered key possesses a unique electronic

coding and so is a unique element in the system

used. The code of a key cannot be reprogrammed.
Remove the key from the key adapter before enter-

ing the danger area. The safety outputs switch the

safety circuit off when the key is removed from the

operating distance. The machine cannot be started.

Insert the key into the key adapter again after leaving

the danger area.

Mounting

The key adapter must not be opened.
To achieve the degree of protection IP 67,

it is necessary to install the key adapter in a

clean, flat metal plate at least 2 mm thick and

to tighten the screws with a tightening torque

of 0.25 ... 0.35 Nm.

The device may be damaged if the tightening

torque applied exceeds 0.35 Nm.

A suitable strain relief must be provided for the

connection cables in order to avoid damage to

the connection sockets or malfunctions.

The key adapter is intended for mounting in control

panels with a cut-out measuring 33 mm x 68 mm

according to DIN 43700. The device is fastened

using screw clamp elements from the rear side of

the panel.
1. Insert the key adapter, with seal already bonded

in place, into the mounting cut-out from the front.

2. Push screw clamp elements into the housing

of the key adapter from the side as far as

they will go and tighten with 0.25 ... 0.35 Nm.

3. After mounting the key adapter, again check

it for firm seating and correct sealing of the

front panel.

Protection against environmental effects

Remove dirt from the key and the key adapter

using a soft cloth and solvent-free, non-abrasive

cleaning agents.
Cover the key adapter and the key during painting

work.

Electrical connection

The key adapter CKS must be used only with a

suitable EUCHNER connection cable. The connec-

tion cable contains two screened cores to transmit

the signals from the key adapter to the evaluation

unit.

All the electrical connections must either be iso-

lated from the mains supply by a safety transformer

according to IEC EN 61558-2-6 with limited output

voltage in the event of a fault, or by other equivalent

isolation measures.

f

For terminal assignment see Figure 1.

f

For detailed information see the system manual

for the evaluation unit used.

Setup and functional check

Pay attention to the information in the system manual

for the evaluation unit used during setup.

Danger of fatal injuries as a result of faults in

installation and functional check.

f

Before carrying out the functional check,

make sure that there are no persons in the

danger area.

f

Observe the valid accident prevention regula-

tions.

After installation and any fault, the safety function

must be fully checked. Proceed as follows:

f

Switch on operating voltage.

f

The machine must not start automatically.

f

Pull the key out of the key adapter; close all safety

guards.

f

It must not be possible to start the machine

as long as the CKS key is removed.
