8.2 Glossary
Bus server Fieldbus-specific OPC server according to the DRIVECOM specification.
CAN Controller Area Network:
International bus system standardised as ISO 11898
CANopen A bus system with optimised communication facilities based on CAN
technology and the application layer CAN.
COM Component Object Model:
Programs created from individually executable objects which are only
connected when the program is running.
DCOM Distributed Component Object Model:
COM which allows the distribution of executable objects on different PC
connected to the same local network.
LECOM Lenze bus system based on RS232, RS485 or LWL (optical fibre).
MPI Multi-Point-Interface:
Bus system which is for instance integrated into the Siemens S7 PLC.
OLE Object Linking and Embedding:
Insertion of working objects into application, e.g. a Microsoft Excel table
into a Microsoft Word document.
OPC OLE for Process Control:
Defines an interface based on Microsoft Windows technologies OLE, COM
and DCOM which enables data exchange between different automation
units and PC programs without taking into consideration drivers and
interfaces.
System bus A Lenze standard bus system similar to CANopen.
