1.1. System concept
The PCM-310 component groups provide a control system which can be managed a by computer
(PLC), based on an extension card for Personal Computers (PC). By using this component group in a
normal commercial PC, it is thus possible to equip it with an PLC facility
The component groups include a Fieldbus socket and are compatible with computer-programmable
control systems in the SIMATIC-S5/S7 or IEC1131 series. They can be programmed via a
programming interface (RS-232), using appropriate programming equipment. As an option, they can
also be programmed using a network. The PLC can communicate with the PC via the PCI bus of the
personal computer. This ensures a faster exchange of data.
The PLC is provided with a transformer to allow the provision of an external power supply of +24 Volts.
In addition, the component group is separated from the electrical supply of the PC. The component
group can be operated separately from the PC when equipped with its own external power supply.
The precautions described above ensure that the control program of the PCM-310 can continue to
operate without interruption when the PC power supply fails as well as when the PC itself breaks down.
The only exception in such cases is the communication with the PC.
