MESSAGING

VIA

A

LANDLINE

Voicemail Center 461.2 supports sending and receiving short text messages (SMS) via a
landline. This SMS feature allows you to send text messages to other SMS-enabled landline
devices (e.g. SMS-enabled telephones) or to mobile phones within the GSM network. You
can also send text messages to e-mail addresses or fax numbers, provided that the network
operator or the SMS messaging centre (SMS centre) supports these services and that they
are enabled.

Step 1: Checking the requirements for the SMS function

These are the requirements for using the SMS function of your Voicemail Center 461.2:

ț

Your network operator must have activated the CLIP and Caller ID (CLIP - incoming and
outgoing) features for your line.

ț

Voicemail Center 461.2 must know the number of your PBX system's exchange line. Your
Voicemail Center 461.2 needs to be configured to allow this (see

chapter Step 2: Entering

the PBX system's exchange line number on page 67

). Voicemail Center 461.2 must not be

configured as a direct exchange line access.

ț

One of the external lines must be dedicated to sending and receiving text messages (the
example on

page 68

ff. uses the telephone number 999111). Voicemail Center 461.2 has

to transmit this number. To send text messages, Voicemail Center 461.2 also needs an
exchange line authorization for outgoing calls. You have to configure your PBX system to
allow this (see

chapter Step 3: Configuring the settings for receiving and sending text mes-

sages on page 68

).

ț

Voicemail Center 461.2 must be registered with an SMS messaging centre (e.g., the Deut-
sche Telekom messaging centre 0193010)* (see

chapter Step 4: Registering the device

with a messaging centre on page 70

).

*

This messaging centre can only be used for operation within Germany. If you are operating your PBX system out-
side Germany, please ask your network operator about a suitable messaging centre.
