9. Safety-related instructions for Ex operation (TR30-P, TR30-W)
The model TR30-x-A and TR30-x-B thermometers are suitable for use as explosion-
protected equipment with the ignition protection type intrinsically safe.
Explanation of the model coding, in particular for the correlation of the category to the
appropriate letter in the model code, thus:
TR30-W-A with transmitter, Ex-i for gases:
II 1 G Ex ia IIC T*
TR30-P-A without transmitter, Ex-i for gases: II 1 G Ex ia IIC T*
TR30-W-B with transmitter, Ex-i for gases and dust: II 2 D Ex iaD 21 T*
TR30-P-B without transmitter, Ex-i for gases and dust: II 2 D Ex iaD 21 T*
9.1 Mounting in metallic enclosures
The housing must be grounded against electromagnetic fields and electrostatic discharge.
It is not necessary to connect the housing separately to the equipotential bonding system,
provided that it has a fixed and secure contact to the metallic vessel, its components or
pipes, and that these are connected to the equipotential bonding system.
9.2 Mounting in non-metallic enclosures
All electrically connected thermometer components within the hazardous area must be
provided with equipotential bonding.
9.3 Installation in Zone 0 (Gases)
The operation of the temperature measuring instrument under Zone 0 conditions is only
permissible if the demands of DIN EN 60079-26 are followed. For use in Category 1G /
Group IIC, it must be ensured that electrostatic charging during mounting or operation is
prevented. Installation in Zone 20 (dust) is not permitted. The installation must be sealed to
IP 67 in accordance with IEC 60529 in order to ensure a secure separation of Ex zones.

Follow the requirements of DIN EN 61241-11 and IEC 60529.
9.5 Other information
■ Terminal 4 in the angular DIN connector has no electrically conducting
connection to the housing. With model TR30-W this is not used. With model TR30-P it is
used for the sensor current circuit in 4-wire connections.
■ Neither repairs nor structural modifications are permitted, and any would void the
guarantee and the ATEX certification.
