Before a client can log on to the RAS Server, it is necessary for a used to be registered on the CE
device. The registration of a user is undertaken, as also applies to other network tools, by means of
the “User” page under “User for remote OPC (DCOM) or FTP access” in the “Config Manager”.
7.1.2 Client configuration
The following description refers to the operating system Microsoft
® Windows XP.
On the client computer, start the “Assistant for new connections” by activating: “Start
→ Network
environment
→ Show network connections → Create new connection”.
It is necessary to select “Create connection with the network at the workplace” and, after pressing
the “Next” key, “Remote connection”. After that, it is merely necessary to enter a name for the
connection, “User” and “Password” as well as the telephone number of the CE device.
The client modem connects itself with the server by means of “dialup”. Once the connection has
been established successfully, a network icon appears in the task bar (in the info area next to the
system clock) on the client computer.
The server IP address, which is important for many network tools, in other words, the IP- address
of the CE device, can be displayed via “Start
→ Network environment → Show network
connections” by means of a double click on the active connection. The “Details” tab contains the
server IP address and the client IP address.
