6.6.1 Getting
started
First a blank program is selected, the first time the software is
used, e.g., no. 1. Descriptive text for each program can be
entered in the text box on the right (maximum 32 characters).
Using the "Prog no" button, you can switch through all 9 avail-
able control programs in order. Each control program can execute up to 20 programmed steps at defined
times or on reaching a specific temperature.
Note:
Series 5 pyrometers must be set to "Online" using the Online/Offline switch for commu-
nication with the PI 6000.
Using the "Test / Auto Tune" window, you can automatically determine values for the impor-
tant controller elements Xp and Ki; you can then manually fine tune the settings until the
required result is obtained. The value Kd = 0 is set when the parameters are determined.
Attention: It is to be ensured that the measurement pyrometer is aligned with the point to be
heated and any warm-up phase is complete (no 7777 indication).
To start the AutoTune process, it is only necessary to define the desired
temperature and click the "AutoTune" button. "Tuning" appears in the
related boxes while the parameters Xp and Ki are determined; once the parame-
ters have been determined, the values determined are displayed in the boxes and
used by the controller. Controller activity can be seen in the bar displayed on the
right. It should be noted that the AutoTune process starts from the actual value. As
such, if there is still residual heat present after a renewed start, values may be
found that may be unusable later.
Attention: The AutoTune process only works if the generator is set to
the minimum level = 0% (see also point 8 in chapter 6.6.5
Advanced program settings).
If necessary, the output signal can be limited using "Max".
If you click "Manual Start", control is commenced with the values in the
Xp and Ki boxes. If "Online graph" is selected, the 6.6.2 Measurement
(online graph) window will be opened on a manual start such that you can visually
follow the desired temperature defined and controller activity. If the control is not
optimal, then after closing the Online graph window you can enter other, slightly
different values in the Xp and Ki boxes.

The AutoTune button has a colour background for easier differentiation during operation:
• orange:
the first time the "Test / AutoTune" window is opened
• orange/red flashing: during the AutoTune process
• green:
once the values for Xp and Ki have been found
