Conventions
Mouse Conventions
Both a single or a multiple button mouse may be used. In the case of a multiple button
mouse, the left button is normally the principle button. When the secondary (right) mouse
button is to be used. It is referred to explicitly as the right mouse button.
Point
Position the mouse so that the tip of the pointer is on
the appropriate object on the screen.
Choose, Click, Select or
Clear
Press and immediately release the mouse button
without moving the mouse.
Drag
Point to the object, hold down the mouse button whilst
moving the object to the desired new location.
Scroll
Click on the scroll bar to scroll the page up or down
Keyboard Conventions
Shortcut keys
Keys are sometimes used in combinations or
sequences: „

3“ means to hold down the shift
key while pressing the function key

means to
press and release
ALT

Return key and Enter key
These keys usually perform the same action. Press
ENTER
allows either Enter or Return to be pressed
unless specifically instructed otherwise.
Arrow keys
UP

DOWN ARROWS

RIGHT ARROWS
can be
used to move the cursor across or down menus.
Tab across
Means to use the
TAB
key to move the cursor to the
next field.
