Applications
IP Traffic The demand for Internet applications (search engines, browsers, video conferencing,
e-commerce) has resulted in explosive growth in the area of client networks.
Furthermore, serial and non-IP LAN applications are migrating to IP. This is driven
by the success of the Internet. The Vanguard 6435, equipped with the latest software,
addresses these needs with IP enhancements such as IP Multicast, RIP2, and Router
Proxy.
Figure 1-3 shows a network with a Vanguard 6435 on one end of a link and Vanguard
6560s on the other. IP Traffic is being transported by Frame Relay. The Applications
Ware software in the Vanguard nodes (the 6435 and the 6560s) has the capability
found in most routers plus the ability of packaging IP traffic in Frame Relay frames.
Additionally, the 6435 and the 6560s can back up IP traffic with
dial-on-demand or ISDN links.
