The following information relates to the “Automation Panel”:

The operation of the device is undertaken with standard production models by means of the keys
mounted next to the device’s display, via the screen keyboard or by using the touch screen.
Optionally, external input devices (keyboard or mouse) may be connected up, which is certainly a
sensible approach for complicated testing or configuration operations.

The minimised keyboard next to the display consists of three function keys F1- F3, which can be
allocated without restrictions by using the “Config Manager” (see section 2.1), in addition to a
switch key marked with an arrow. Using this key, a long depression of the key (approx. 5 s) results
in a switch to the second level of the functional keys. This is shown by the blinking of the “power”
LED. Using the F1 key, the “Config Manager" can now be called up (standard factory setting) and
by using F2 (+) and F3(-), it is possible to adjust the display brightness. A further activation of the
switch key results in a switch back to the first level (“power” LED once again shines without
interruption).

In the Touch Panel version, a resistive touch screen is included. The touch controller is connected
to the computer via a serial interface. To ensure problem-free operation, it is necessary to
undertake a calibration. This is performed in our factory. If necessary, it is possible to undertake a
recalibration with the assistance of the installed calibration software. The calibration software can
be started by entering “Start

→Programs” or by using the “Config Manager”. The operation itself

varies according to the touch screen in use.

The following information relates to the Automation Controller:

The standard device is supplied without input or output hardware. It is therefore necessary to
attach external input/output hardware using the device’s interfaces, when undertaking
configuration and installation operations (see manual “Automation Controller Hardware”).
Depending upon the intended application, it is also possible to make use of the “MP xxx(x) DVI”
component group. This is identical with the input/output devices of the “Automation Panel”.

The directory system of the PCMatic devices may be considered in terms of the following
structure:

Operating system

image on the
Compact Flash

Memory image of the system drive, provided by the standard factory
setting and not capable of being modified. The image is decompressed
and copied to the system drive during the booting operation.

System drive

Non-persistent drive created in the device’s main memory during the
booting process. From this source, the desktop and the operating system
programs, among other elements, are started.

This means therefore that all files and links which are not stored on the
Compact Flash (e.g. links to the desktop, files in the root directory or in
the “Program Files” directory) are not persistent.

Free memory on the
Compact Flash

The available free memory capacity is used for the persistent storage of
the system’s own application-specific files. Applications can be started
from the Compact Flash. Files used by the applications, for example
those which would normally be expected to be located in the “System”
directory of the operating system, must be recopied into the system drive
every time the system is rebooted.

Windows

® CE does not use any letter identifications for drives. In the device’s Explorer

system, the root directory is identified as “My Computer”. This means, for example, that
access to the “Wordpad” in the Windows directory is possible by inputting the following
absolute path identification:
“\Windows\pWord.exe”
