4.3 PCMatic Control - the Soft-PLC

PCMatic Control is a Siemens S7-compatible Soft-PLC for emulating a hardware- PLC with real
time behavioural characteristics, which runs under Windows CE.Net. Using an available PC, it is
possible to allocate a freely determinable part of the processor power to the PLC function (preset:
50 % PLC calculation time and 50 % Windows time).

The PLC program is processed in the same way as with a hardware PLC system. This offers the
advantage that the status in the PG can be displayed directly. The testing of an PLC program is
greatly simplified by this approach, as it is possible to identify at any time which instruction is
currently being processed. Individual components can be transferred directly to the Soft-PLC
system.

To satisfy various performance wishes and to make it possible to adopt existing PLC programs
without changes, the Soft-PLC system is offered in the versions PLC S7-315 (compatible with
CPU S7-315) and also PLC S7-416 (compatible with CPU S7-416).

It is possible to implement Profibus DP or CAN-Open as field bus systems. The bus configuration
is undertaken via the configuration facility “SYCON” produced by the Hilscher company.

It is also possible to provide a field bus configuration with the Simatic Manager in combination
with Profibus.

After the start-up of the CE device, the Soft-PLC system is depicted by means of a symbol in the
task bar:

PLC “Stop”

PLC “Start”

After the computer has been booted up, the Soft-PLC system is started.
Depending upon the setting in the registration, the PLC program is
loaded and executed on starting. The icon changes its appearance
according to the current status of the PLC. The PCM Control Panel can
be opened by means of a double click on the icon.
