4.4 PCMatic Engineering – Project planning and configuration
All activities related to the Soft-PLC are described as “Engineering”. These include programming,
field bus configuration, OPC server configuration and optionally downloading and connection to
the visualisation facility.
All activities are carried out by one or more external computer(s), requiring only a TCP-/IP
(Ethernet) connection with the PCMatic device (see block diagram for the PCMatic device).
The configuration of the system covers three areas.
• The field bus card
• The PLC
• The OPC server.
4.4.1 Project planning - programming via TCP/IP
In contrast with the serial MPI interface, the MPI interface via TCP/IP is always available, as soon
as the PLC recognises a network. Using this interface, it is possible to program and work with the
Soft-PLC system with the support of “S5/S7 for Windows” or with the “Simatic Manager”.
4.4.1.1 IBHNet
The interface between the programming software and the PLC is provided by IBHNet.
Installation of IBHNet
To embed IBHNet in the Simatic Manager, it is essential that the Simatic Manager and (for
interface purposes) the PC-Adapter (MPI) are installed before the IBHNet installation is
commenced !!
Configuration of IBHNet
The dialogue for the “IBH network settings” is started under “Programs → IBH → IBHNet →
IBHNet and IBHLink settings”.
It is possible to set up a new station in the dialogue “IBH network settings”. The “Station”
dialogue is opened by means of a mouse click on the “new station” button. The IP address of the
PLC must be entered at this point. The type muss must be set to “IBH link” and the profile to
“MPI”, and the options should all be deactivated.
