7.2 Dial-up networking

In contrast with the establishment of a connection to the RAS server on the CE device, it is of
course also possible, to dial up in the opposite direction via a modem with the CE device on a
remote computer. This can be done by means of a dial-up connection.

7.2.1 Establishing a connection from a CE device to an RAS server

In order to set up a connection to a remote
computer via a modem, it is necessary for a new
dial-up connection to be established. Firstly, call
up the configuration page for network settings
on the CE device via Start

→Settings. Then start

the connections assistant by means of a double
click on “Make New Connection”.

In the connection assistant, select “Dial-Up
Connection” and allocate a name for the
connection.

On the next page, select a Hayes-compatible
modem on COM1 or COM2.

It is possible to adjust “TCP/IP Settings…” and
“Security Settings”, depending upon the
configuration of the remote RAS server. In
general, however, it is possible to work with the
standard setting.

It is necessary to make the important
adjustments for the modem and the telephone
network by means of “Configure”.

This applies, for example, to the

modem’s baud rate....

...or to the “Wait for dial tone” setting.
