The Compact Flash is displayed as the file “Storage” in the root directory. Access to files
contained on the Compact Flash is possible by means of inputting the following absolute path
identification:
“Storage\MyDir\Myapp.exe”

The standard Compact Flash installed at the factory is in FAT 16 (DOS) format. It has (in
principle) the following content:
Boot loader

Files required to start the operating system directly in the root
directory of the Compact Flash:
• CEBOOT.SYS
• PREVBOOT.SEC

Registration

Everything in the directory “REG” on the Compact Flash. As opposed
to the operation system elements, the registration remains on the
persistent storage medium. This is where the applications/device
specific settings of the device are stored.
If a “Reg” directory is renamed during operational use, a new
registration file is created when the system is next booted up. This is
the equivalent of carrying out a global reset of the device. All settings
previously made on the device are therefore cancelled.

The “Windows” directory is the most important directory in the system drive after the system has
been booted up. This is the storage location for all the system components and extensions which
are embedded in images. It is also the location from which the operating system is started.

Files associated with the user’s own projects or developments are not usually prepared on the
PCMatic device. For this purpose, it is necessary to use a development computer on which the
corresponding development tools have been installed. Even during the development stage, it may
be desired to transfer these files for testing purposes and if appropriate to test them. For the
development of applications (e.g. visualisations), Microsoft Visual Studio .NET provides a
suitable tool. The relevant framework for starting the applications created by the use of .NET is
already installed on the PCMatic device. The transfer to the target system can be undertaken via
TCP/IP with the assistance of the FTP server or by means of special interconnection components
made available by Visual Studio.

What else is covered in this document?

Following this overview, the following sections firstly describe in full detail the individual
automation-specific components developed by Inosoft/Lenze Digitec. After that, the configuration
components provided by Microsoft

® are listed, in as much as their application is necessary or

worthwhile in specific application areas. The complete reference list of these system programs is
in available for reference in the corresponding Microsoft

® documents. Finally, a list is included

covering the system components installed in the CE image.
