4.4.3 The OPC server

The OPC server (Prog ID: VWOPC.PCMControl) can establish a connection to the PLC without
any form of configuration. The only prerequisite for this is that the Soft-PLC must already have
been started (the symbol in the task bar is visible).

It is then only necessary to configure the OPC server if a symbol table is compiled or if OPC
clients are linked in via the network.

4.4.3.1 Configuring a DCOM connection
The connections to the OPC server are user-specific: this applies to those which are used for
configuration as well as to those used for communication. This means that each user who wishes
to work with the OPC server must be announced to the Terminal and authorised for
communication with the OPC server.

TCP/IP

This can and should be undertaken from a desktop system with the assistance of the Web server
(see also section 0).

At a local level, it is possible for users to be set up by using the Config Manager > “User” and
then allocated to the appropriate OPC server by means of the “DCOM-OPC”.

4.4.4 Importing Step7 symbols (optional)

In order to be able to import the symbol-based information from a S7 project (“Simatic Manager”
or “S5/S7 for Windows”), a special symbol browser is installed on the desktop system. This
browser can be used to select and save the items from the S7 project for the OPC server.

The symbol browser can be installed using the setup “PCM-Control-BrowserTool.exe”.
