6 FTP server

By means of an FTP connection, it is possible to access the entire range of data stored on the
Compact Flash of the PCMatic device. This makes it possible, for example, to implement an
update of the Soft-PLC or of other components. The following section provides an example of the
installation of the PLC by means of FTP:

Establish a connection via FTP and HTTPT

• Establish a connection with the link line

http://<ipaddress

>”

• Activate the Web connection by means of a double click on the connection
• Follow the links “Configuration” -> “remote OPC user” and then create a user with a

password (see section 0).

• Establish a connection with the link line “

ftp://<user>:<pwd>@<ipaddress

>”

Note! The Internet Explorer must NOT be in “offline” mode.
If you are using a remote connection, activate the point “Select only if no network connection has
been established” and in the Internet Explorer deactivate the “Offline activity” under “File”.

Installing the update

• Close down the PLC.
• Rename the directory of the PLC (e.g. S7PLC3_3)
• Copy the entire directory of the new PLC to the Automation Panel via FTP
• Start the PLC (e.g. via F3 or if the function key has been relocated, via the Config Manager)
• Load the program into the PLC by means of the Simatic Manager.
• Save the program.

Note! As an alternative to carrying out the final two actions, it is also possible to copy the image
file (default S7.bin) out of the directory “S7PLC3_3” on to the desktop and subsequently to copy
it into the current directory “S7PLC”. When using FTP, it is not possible to make direct copies.
