Serial Port (X31)
The RS-232-C/V.24 serial port is located on the rear panel. The

following devices can be connected to this port:

Printer with serial data interface

Personal computer with serial data interface

A printer, or computer may be connected to the serial port. Part

programs, and configuration files may be sent to a printer, or

computer. Remote commands, remote key codes, part programs, and

configuration files may be received from a computer.
For operations that support data transfer, an IMPORT/EXPORT soft

key will be available.

The BAUD field can be set to 300, 600, 1 200, 2 400, 9 600, 19 200,

38 400, 57 600, or 115 200 by using the LOWER, and HIGHER soft

keys.

The parity can be set to NONE, EVEN, or ODD using the soft keys

provided.

Data Bits in the FORMAT field can be set to 7, or 8 using the soft

keys provided.

The STOP BITS field can be set to 1, or 2 using soft keys.

LINE FEED field can be set to YES if the external device needs a line

feed to follow a carriage return.

Output tail is the number of carriage returns that will be sent at the

end of the measured value output transmission. The output tail is

initially 0, and can be set to a positive integer value (0 - 9) by using

the numeric hard keys.

The screen shown here are the default settings.
The serial port settings will be retained on a power cycle. There is no

parameter to enable, or disable the serial port. Data will only be sent

to the serial port if the external device is ready. Refer to Data Interface

section for cable connection, and pin assignments.

To export data to a serial port printer, press the IMPORT/EXPORT soft

key. The data is exported in an ASCII text format which can be printed

directly.
To export, or import data between the ND 780, and a personal

computer, the PC must use terminal communications software such

as TNCremo. TNCremo is available for free at:

http://filebase.heidenhain.de/doku/english/serv_0.htm. Contact the

nearest Heidenhain distributor for further details. This software

processes the data being sent, or received over the serial cable link.

All data transferred between ND 780, and the PC is in ASCII text

format.

Data is transferred in the following sequence: Start bit,

Seven data bits, Parity bit (even parity), Two stop bits. This

is the default setting.
